Do you wish for more from life? More money, a better looking body, a better mental state, becoming happier and generally more satisfied with life? In order to achieve any of these you will have to learn the art of rowing. Drifting through life will only lead to a lack of desired results, taking whatever you can get vs going and getting what you want! In order to get what you want from life, you need to first determine what that is and then plot a course to get there. From there you will have to row purposely in that direction. You can’t get where you want to get by drifting, that only leads to where others want you to go.
Put yourself FIRST
If you’ve ever been on an airplane, you will remember they say you must first put your own oxygen mask on first. This is because without oxygen, you will not be able to help someone else. Every person owes themselves first the duty of finding how to live a full and happy life. In order to better serve others, you must serve yourself first.
You can’t give what you don’t have. If you aren’t helping yourself you won’t be able to help anyone else. Not to mention, what have you done to prove your credibility to those you are trying to help? True leadership is done through example, and example only. How can you hold anyone accountable if you aren’t holding yourself accountable?
In order to start thinking on your own, you must reject fear. Fear of failure will lead you off the path. Your subconscious mind will work towards your most dominant thoughts. If these thoughts are fear, you will be fulfilling your own prophecy, taking place in actions that will cause you to fail. Fear only leads to inaction, inaction causes more fear. You must clarify your goal and think positively on how you are going to achieve it.
Fear and self doubt are the greatest barriers to success..
The worst of all human ailments; indecision. Fear keeps us indecisive, we must get clear with what our goal is and attack with positive actions. Unless you take action, nothing will change. You must take on the persona of who you most want to be like. In order to start taking positive action, you need to remove all negative actions and replace them with positive. This begins first with your thoughts.
Control your THOUGHTS
Your thoughts are either negative or positive, there is no middle ground. Stagnation is regression. Nature will take the empty space in your mind you leave it and fill it with fear and negativity. Fill your mind with only positive thoughts. Idle hands and an idle mind are the Devil’s playground. You must remove all negative influences that are forcing upon you any negativity. Look at your conversations among your peers. Are they positive or negative? Are they talking about ideas or are they talking about other people? Participating in gossip is a surefire way to reinforce negative thoughts. The people you spend the most time around will influence the way you think. Take a look at your environment and see what you could do to improve.
Change your ENVIRONMENT
If you aren’t drifting, you have carefully chosen the people in your life to be conducive only to keeping you on the path to your goals. Do you share common values? Do you share a common goal? If not, it may be time to consider changing your environment. A negative environment will lead to perpetuating the negative thoughts, actions and feelings you have. You may have to distance yourself from some negative people and they will not like it. You should also be seeking some positive people that will help contribute to your goals and only encourage you in your endeavor. For many people this is where they hire their first coach or mentor to help them in their journey. The positive coach will help to reinforce the positive thoughts, actions and changes the person wants to make, but often falls back into their own ways when in their old environment. Hiring a coach is the easiest way to change your environment. The cost of having a tough conversation with a negative person or the thought of trying to make a new positive friend is offset by the cost of paying a coach.
